Monteith's Mine Gold
2010 Best Awards

Designworks took a swathe of 18 medals at the Best Design Awards for its work with Monteith’s, Air New Zealand, Telecom and other projects from the past year.

The redesign of the quintessential West Coast beer brand took two golds, a silver and a bronze for different elements of the overall design package.

A core trio of Group Head of Design Jef Wong, designer Matt Hammond and consultant Michael Crampin put the Monteith’s masterbrand in top place in the Identity Development Large Scale category and scored a gold for the Monteith’s brand book in the Corporate Communication category too.

The refreshed branding won a silver in Packaging and bronze in Graphic Design Arts with added input from Designworks designers Tana Mitchell, Mike Collinge and Michelle Dowd, and photography from Chris Williams from Black Box Photography.

Collaborating with a number of agencies to help get Air New Zealand’s Space Seat and Skycouch to market saw Designworks among the accolades for the gold winning projects in the Furniture category.

Designworks’ Anzac Tasker was a gold medal winner in the Best Awards’ Student category, for his work at AUT School of Art and Design.

Aside from Monteith’s, Designworks' projects took another three medals in the Packaging category, for Waitemata Sparkling Ale (silver), Silver Fern Farms (bronze) and Zealong tea (bronze).

Designwork’s collaboration with Wellington tourism destinations City Gallery and Zealandia – the Karori Sanctuary Experience – added another four medals in the Visual Communication and Identity Development (Small Scale) categories.

Designworks' longstanding relationship with Telecom and its new look was recognised with a bronze medal in the Identity Development (Large Scale) category.

Designing annual reports for Genesis and Auckalnd Airport scored medal wins, and Designworks' designers Paul Johnson and Margie Duignan picked up a bronze medal for their Best Design Awards Book from the 2008 Awards.
