Honesty the best policy for Genesis
Australasian Reporting Awards
Genesis Energy’s section win at the Australasian Reporting Awards is the fourth time its annual report, designed and produced by Designworks, has come top of its category.
The company’s 2009 annual report was the winner of the Communication Award – Public Sector at the awards in Sydney recently.
The judges commented that “the Genesis Energy report meets its stated objectives of having “an honest conversation with stakeholders”. It provides insights on the challenges of balancing the need for low cost power, public expectations for lower environmental impacts, and profitability.”
Genesis public affairs manager Richard Gordon says the award category specifically signifies the ability of an annual report to communicate a corporate message through design and content.
“For us it recognises the effort we make trying to get across our company position on meaningful issues. It recognises that and the hard work that goes on between us and our design partner Designworks.”
Designworker Sophie Tyler says the concept of having “big hero shots” of Genesis staff and stakeholders is aimed at creating a much more personal style to the corporate publication.
“When you open up the annual report it’s like you are having a face to face conversation.”
She points out the format of the report is new as well, splitting the financials into one volume and the editorial reporting into another.
