Help Us Help You
Coastguard Tradeshow Stand

When Coastguard’s Northern Region approached Designworks to create their 2012 Hutchwilco Boat Show stand, they had an objective clearly in mind: to drive community awareness and increase support from the public of them as the charity saving lives at sea through selling memberships.

The overarching idea was that of a dual helping hand- “HELP US” (by signing up to be a member) “HELP YOU” (on the water)

With a unique opportunity to tell the Coastguard story, we drew inspiration for the concept from the vernacular of the nautical world, re-interpreting it in a contemporary way to appeal to the modern consumer. The idea was divided into three distinct parts: Attract, Inform, Engage.

1. ATTRACT
Double-sided giant inflatable water droplets were hung from the ceiling to create a highly visual display from a distance. A striking visual palette of blue, red and white, and a bold messaging system, helped achieve immediate impact and clarity.  Further cues to the maritime world were visualized with international flag codes spelling out the word ‘HELP’.

2. INFORM
Wall graphics framing key messages and core statistics provided highly visual information bites.

3. ENGAGE
Nautical themed games lining the far wall served as a dynamic and interactive educational tool, driving interaction and engagement at all ages. Giveaways such as branded balloons, carry bags and stickers, served as take-home reminders of what Coastguard was all about.

The show was a success, with the original target of 250 well exceeded - over 325 members were signed up! And the stand was put through to the final nominations for best non-commercial stand of the year.
