Schoolgen goes live with the kids out West
Tirimoana School, one of the first schools in New Zealand to have solar panels installed through Genesis Energy's Schoolgen programme, celebrated that their school is leading the way in teaching their students and teachers about solar energy with a special Schoolgen assembly on Wednesday 25 February, which designworks was honoured to attend.
Schoolgen is a programme developed by Genesis Energy (one of New Zealand's largest energy companies and a designworks client) to bring solar energy to life for children across New Zealand. As part of the programme a 2-kilowatt photovoltaic system (solar panels) is installed on the roof of selected schools at no cost to the school, so schools can generate a portion of their own electricity from the Sun. However, everybody can see the electricity that is being generated by the solar panels on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis on the Schoolgen website and use the data as a learning tool.
designworks is responsible for the brand direction and design of Schoolgen (from t-shirts, caps and backdrop to the website). We've brought renewable energy and environmental concerns to life in a fun way, which means communicating with kids and not at them... It's energy in a new light!
