Sven Baker, Creative Director of designworks Wellington, gave a compelling speech on gaining business advantage through brand design at the annual Thrive Wellington event, Thursday 13th November 2008.

Using a range of evocative images he presented three central topics developing customer engagement, building intangible value of your business, and delivering through powerful design thinking, to a crowd of around 400 entrepreneurs, business leaders and enthusiasts.

His selection of examples exemplified that brand is much more than a logo. Using images from some of New Zealand's iconic companies, Sven explained how a strong brand assists them in taking on the dominant player with dramatic effect.New Zealand companies such as Kiwibank, 42Below and Hell Pizza are able to compete for market share by having a clear understanding of their promise and unique competitive advantage.

Revealing powerful statistics from clients such as AMI Insurance, Hot Chilly and New Zealand Post, Sven highlighted the value of a well-managed brand. Sven says, AMI gained double digit growth in new customers, significant reduction in churn and the staff turnover was half the industry average.
