Telecom unveils its new Wellington store
Hot on the heels of last weeks Red Awards Category win, Telecom has unveiled its new Wellington store in Willis street.
Alan Gourdie, CEO of Telecom Retail, officially opened the store at a function for staff, business parters, contributors and friends. In his opening speech, Alan explained the thinking behind the concept, describing it as 'an embodiment of the company's vision and its brand values'. He described how the store concept was specifically designed to put customers at the heart of the experience with a focus being on empowering New Zealand's to get more out of their technology through a complimentary one-to-one post purchase tutorial session.
The new store format provides an interactive environment where customers can trial the latest and greatest products and technologies in the way that they intend to use them at home, in the office or out and about. It’s a hands-on environment, which means you can play with the latest laptops, check your Facebook on the hottest phone or learn how home connections would work for you.
The Wellington store is the second of its kind for Telecom having open its Victoria Street concept store in Auckland late last year which heralded a dramatic departure from the traditional Telco retailing approach.
The new direction is the result of a collaboration between Telecom Retail, Designworks and Gascoigne Associates. Designworks, responding to a brief to development a store experience that would challenge the conventions of 'phone retailing', led the strategy and early design concept phases, teaming up with Clark Pritchard and Stacy Mitchell from Gascoigne Associates on the detailed design development and implementation phases.
Mr Gourdie rounded off the night by acknowledging the huge effort put in by a large group of staff and suppliers who had worked timelessly to bring the Wellington store to fruition.
