City Gallery Festival Season
New Ways of Seeing Contemporary Art
City Gallery Wellington’s Festival Season is the first major launch for the gallery since designworks became a foundation sponsor of the gallery late last year.
The kaleidoscopic visual concept was designed to represent the collective nature of the Festival Season and the multi-sensory, multi-disciplinary range of the artists represented in the show – from Janet Caridff’s haunting ’40 part motet’ sound installation to Seraphine’s Pick’s paintings of fantasy, memory and identity and the bold paint abstractions of Milan Mrkusich.
A revitalised brand and vivid visual language reflects City Gallery Wellington as more than a neutral venue that shows art on walls. The new brand positions the gallery as a destination where – regardless of what exhibition is being staged – visitors can expect a memorable creative experience of the highest international quality.
The Festival Season which begins on 20 February and runs throughout the International Festival of the Arts until 16 May, is the first in a long line of exhibitions and events planned to strengthen the gallery’s reputation and re-cast the brand as New Zealand’s most exciting art destination.
